London, Friday 20th December: Sony Music are excited to announce global superstar Mariah Carey has hit one million UK sales for her Christmas classic ‘All I want for Christmas is You’. Recently named the nation’s most cherished Christmas song, this festive favourite remains Carey’s biggest international hit and one of the best selling singles of all time.
Mariah’s much-loved seasonal classic passed the landmark sales threshold yesterday, establishing itself as one of the UK’s all-time greatest hits. The US singer was triumphant when told of the achievement yesterday, telling OfficialCharts.com:
“I just landed back in the US after performing a charity show in Africa for the Red Cross and I’m driving home looking at the snow in my hometown of NYC, celebrating selling 1 million copies of ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ in the UK. Demonstrating its lasting appeal with UK fans, ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ was released by Columbia Records as the lead single from Mariah Carey’s fourth studio album, ‘Merry Christmas’ back in 1994, which saw the song debut at Number 5, before climbing to Number 2 the following week. Carey co-wrote and co-produced the song with widely acclaimed producer Walter Afanasieff.
Mariah Carey has sold over 220 million records worldwide, making her the biggest selling female artist of all time. Mariah Carey’s new studio album will be released in Spring 2014.
