Mariah Carey’s Christmas classic makes a slow start on UK Singles Chart this year. Music Week reports the following:
The top two seasonal perennials – Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You and The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl’s Fairytale Of New York – are slow starters this year, with Carey’s song climbing 68-47 (6,752 sales) and The Pogues’ up 85-53 (6,558 sales) this week. All I Want For Christmas Is You was eyeing its millonth sale this Christmas but its sales over the last four weeks (13,955) are 29.56% below the 19,811 copies it sold in the same timeframe last year which, if projected through to the end of the year, would mean it selling a further 42,504 copies, climbing to 989,402 sales at the start of 2014, leaving it 11,598 sales short of the million mark, which it would then probably not achieve until next December.
